Innovating multi-material, high-resolution fabrication methodologies for tech fashion designers
ROLE: Fabrication Modeling Researcher
CLIENT: JK Design
YEAR: 2018
TEAM: JK Design + Stratasys

Project Description
Setae is a research design project that explores novel 3D modeling, visualization, and fabrication techniques. Creatively, this project references microscopic butterfly wing patterns.
Photographs of the Madagascan Sunset Butterfly wing setae are digitized into various texture maps, translating the color pixels into 3D bristle patterns corresponding to the form of the garment design.
The final designs are 3d printed without any support material and directly on fabric. The relation between the colorful rigid setae and the flexible fabric creates enigmatic visual effects when the garment is in motion.
